Like we can say the answer has Four characters because the answer does really have four characters. if we say one or two or three is incorrect because one has 3 characters two has 3 characters three has 5 characters five has 4 characters (but you said five, not four) so the only answer that works is “four” The people that answered “4” is incorrect because “4” only has 1 character.
