Warning: This is not a website, so a little bit of geeky work is needed. But the effort is worth it!

 

In this post I'll be sharing how to download books using mIRC.

 

If you have ever used Slack for work, then you are using something reminiscent to mIRC.
If you're over 30 like me, then you probably had a good time in mIRC as well. ?

 

For this all you need is a copy of mIRC.

SETUP INSTRUCTIONS:

 

 

Step 1:

After downloading mIRC, click the hammer icon (mIRC options) > select IRC > check "rejoin channel when kicked"

Step 2:

(mIRC options) > DCC > follow the image:

Step 3: 

mIRC options > DCC > Ignore > Follow these settings:

Step 4:

mIRC options > DCC > Folders > set your download location for the files.

Step 5: HIT OK.

 

Step 6: 

Click the lightning bolt icon and connect to server: IRC.UNDERNET.ORG and set your name / nickname > CONNECT.

 Join channel #ebooks and type the following:
 

!find Harry Potter

 

The bot should return with something like this:

Search for "Harry Potter" returned 173 matches. Sending results to you as Searchbot HarryPotter.txt. Search took 0.44 seconds.

 

You can change "Harry Potter" to any title or author name you want. For example: !find fifty shades

Step 8:

You will receive a message with a text file of all the titles related to your search.
Copy one of the lines and paste back to #ebooks room. You will then instantly receive your Ebook back.

I have been using this method for ebooks and movies for years. You can find movie servers via sunxdcc.

It seems a little bit overwhelming for a non-techie at first, but it's really very easy. Once the initial setup is done,

downloading books here is just the easiest.
