Jmrie_
The movement began after the brutal murder of Pinar Gultekin, a 27-year-old who was strangled to death by her ex-boyfriend. Her burned body was kept in an oil drum before pouring concrete mix on the top to avoid being convicted of the crime. There was an uproar in defiance to this mostrous act and people began posting colorless photos in support to Pinar's. Protests have erupted all over in Turkey. In 2019 alone, 474 women were murdered and most of them were killed at the hands of partners or relatives. It was the highest number in a decade. Men who are convicted of murder often say they acted on impulse, or who are understood to be religious are often given reduced sentences. The black and white filter was chosen as a response to them being frustrated over always seeing black and white photos of women who have been killed.
